Smart-ID now available with OpenID Connect protocol-based integration

In the digital world, making sure users are who they say they are is crucial. We are excited to present Authentigate, a new platform that makes user verification simple, fast, and secure.

What is Authentigate?

Authentigate is a gateway that lets e-services easily authenticate their user with Smart-ID, Mobile-ID and Estonian ID card. There is only one integration needed which is based on an industry standard OpenID Connect protocol. E-services can securely request and receive user data and at the same time users can see and confirm what information is shared.

How Authentigate Works

An e-service asks for information from the user.
The user agrees to share this information.
The user is redirected to the Authentigate portal.
The user verifies their identity using Smart-ID, Mobile-ID, or ID-card (for Estonia).
Authentigate collects the needed data and sends it to the e-service.
The user returns to the e-service to continue their activity.

E-services can request about their users:

Personal code
First name
Last name
Full name
Date of birth
Age or age confirmation (over/under a certain age)

What is the difference between Authentigate and Smart-ID?

In the case of Smart-ID, one single REST API-based integration enables to authenticate users and to give signatures. A certificate with user data is provided and data needs to be extracted from there.

In the case of Authentigate, one single OpenID Connect protocol-based integration enables to authenticate users with Smart-ID, Mobile-ID and Estonian IDcard. User data can be requested as separate attributes. It is possible to request data without revealing the user’s identity (e.g. age verification).
